The new documentary Silent Legacy, directed by Jenni Kivistö and Jussi Rastas, has been selected for two major Nordic competitions. The film will screen in the Nordic Documentary Competition at the Göteborg Film Festival, held from January 23 to February 1, 2026, the largest film festival in Scandinavia. Kivistö and Rastas will attend the festival for the film’s Nordic premiere.
Silent Legacy has also been selected for the National Competition at the DocPoint – Helsinki Documentary Film Festival, taking place from February 3 to 8, 2026. The film’s Finnish premiere will be held at DocPoint on February 6, 2026, marking the first public screening of the film in Finland. In Finland, the film will be released theatrically under the title Katseiden alla on February 13, 2026.
The Nordic Documentary Competition at Göteborg Film Festival highlights bold, political, and artistically distinctive documentaries that approach timely subjects from new perspectives. In 2026, the competition features six films, competing for the Dragon Award – Best Nordic Documentary. Jenni Kivistö’s and Jussi Rastas’s previous film, Colombia in My Arms (2020), won the Dragon Award for Best Nordic Documentary at the Göteborg Film Festival in 2020.
Silent Legacy had its world premiere in August 2025 at the Locarno Film Festival, in the Semaine de la Critique selection. Silent Legacy (Katseiden alla) explores identity, belonging, and responsibility through the perspective of a person navigating life between two worlds—offering an intimate look at individuals compelled to respond to the pressures of an increasingly unequal world. The film’s cinematic language combines observational documentary with contemporary dance, creating a layered and distinctive narrative form.
